History
Provite is opgericht in 1977 door Mary Houtaar van Veldhoven, de moeder van de huidige eigenaar Margot Houtaar. Zij was advertentieverkoopster bij Roomskatholiek Dagblad Het Binnenhof en later bij Beleggersbelangen. Mary zocht iets om te doen vanuit huis zodat zij ook thuis kon zijn voor haar kinderen en heeft toen op 1 maart 1977 Provite (PROmotie Via Telefoon) opgericht, met als eerste klant het bedrijf dat kaarten maakte voor naast de telefoon te hangen met allerlei belangrijke telefoonnummers erop (politie, brandweer etc.).. Daaromheen was ruimte voor advertenties en die verkocht zij.
Very soon the dining room table was exchanged for a real office (read: a room in the house of an acquaintance) and soon thereafter a first colleague followed (Aunt Til, no not the one from the TV show). They expanded into the renovated garage of the same acquaintance, who, by the way, lived in a very nice neighborhood in The Hague, making the neighbors wonder what all those ladies were doing there every day at the house of that decent gentleman. The acquaintance was slowly pushed out of his house because not long afterwards the dug-out basement was also included in the enterprise.

By the way, back then dial phones were still used and all the ladies were given a wooden stick so their fingers didn't hurt too much at the end of the day. The copier to copy parts of the ABC guide, pritt pens to stick those strips on a piece of A4 paper and the mail (to send the results to the client after calling through) were our greatest friend. An entire wall of the office (which was now located in a maisonette in Kijkduin) consisted of drawers, and all the drawers belonged to a client.
In 1989 the present building on the Groot Hertoginnelaan was moved into, then combined with the home of Mary and her family. The expression: I work in Margot's bedroom, is still often used. In 1991, after completing her studies, Margot joined Provite, and from 1993 she formed a general partnership with her mother. Mary spent the last years of her active life training 1000s of consultants, receptionists, agents, regional managers, etc., who had to use the telephone commercially. However, when the3rd grandchild was born she threw herself 100% into the role of "sweetest and nicest grandmother in the world.
Sadly, Mary passed away from us April 29, 2020. But she was waved off, from her beloved Groot Hertoginnelaan where she still lived, by all colleagues.
